We made a comparative testing of the wines Vignafante (Cimate), Palaia (Monrubio) eTurlò ((Salviano). All 3 wines are Sangiovese blends from 2016. They have a similar ex cellar price.
Palaia and Turlò are old acquaintances, Palaia already on the Chinese market, Turlò in the ship for arrival beginning of June. Vignafante is a newcomer from the excellent Cimate winery, which Sagrantino did win the latest comparative Sagrantino tasting.
All 3 wines present themselves with Ruby colour, being quite deep in the case of Turlò. The colour of the Vignafante is much less deep, but very beautiful. They have all clean aromas in the nose, being the Palaia less intensive and the Turlò the most intensive one. Black fruits also in the mouth, Blackberry Vignafante, Black Currant Palaia and very ripe nearly dried plums in the case of Turlò. Body is medium for Vignafante and Palaia more than medium for the Turlò, which surely is related to the hìgher alcohol.
All the wines have nice tannins, which get more smooth in the case of Turlò.
